A bright and beautiful mid-century modern ranch needed a major kitchen facelift. The dark, small space of the old kitchen had limited storage and inadequate use of space. Closing off the original laundry room entryway made more space without having to change too much of the footprint. The stove and refrigerator essentially swapped places, making the kitchen not only more functional, but also more inviting. Raising the cabinet height and using wide, landscaped cabinetry broadened the kitchen, while the added skylight naturally brightens the space. Natural light and materials like the unstained white oak, warm brass, and tonal terrazzo gives this kitchen an earthy but refreshed feel. The pops of the sunny yellow and sea green are playful against the contrasting matte black and bright concrete, adding whimsy and light.
